Food inflation and rising costs among goods and services across the United States this year has caused many consumers to stay home and opt-out of dining at restaurants. Restaurant traffic in April of 2022 was 11% below the pre-pandemic percent of April 2019 - meaning more consumers were dining out pre-pandemic and restaurants traffic has not seen an uptick.

In a recent report, Alignable had data showing that 72% of small restaurant owners are worried about inflation and the risks associated with it which ultimately may lead to forcing them to close their business in the next six months. On top of inflation and food prices continuing to increase, restaurant owners are also dealing with labor shortages. Everyone loves a from scratch meal, but in an interview with Forbes Christina Davie Donahue, president and chief revenue officer of Buyers Edge Platform shared that scratch cooking takes a lot of people, and for many restaurants it’s just not possible right now.
