McDonald’s New Quick Service Restaurant Format: How Will it Affect Food Packaging?

What is McDonald’s new quick service format and how will it affect food packaging? McDonald’s has expanded their new Quick-Service Restaurant format to more than 2,000 restaurants in the US. The new format is a modernized and streamlined version of the classic restaurant designed to serve families on the go.

This modernization will shift McDonald’s packaging strategy as they look to offer more environmentally friendly options. In this article, you’ll learn about the new format and how it will affect food packaging.

What is McDonald’s New Quick Service Restaurant Format?

McDonald’s claims the order-ahead lane allows employees to prepare customers’ orders quicker in  the restaurant. In addition, they believe their location’s app, food, beverage conveyor, and new kitchen format all streamline operations. Keith Vanecek, the franchisee operating the test restaurant, adds that this technology not only helps them serve their customers in new ways but also allows his team to concentrate more on order speed and accuracy, which results in a better customer experience.

The restaurant inside is considerably smaller than traditional U.S. McDonald’s restaurants. The reason behind this change was the features, inside and out, are geared toward diners who plan on taking food home to eat or consuming it while they’re on the go. Delivery pickup rooms have been created for the couriers to pick up orders, outdoor kiosks allow customers to place their order from an extended list of available payment options, and designated parking spaces for those in a rush to get their food as fast as possible.

How Will the New Quick Service Format Increase the Need for Eco-friendly Food Packaging?

In recent years, McDonald’s has been experimenting with different restaurant formats to appeal to a broader range of customers. The most recent change is introducing a new quick-service format, designed to be more efficient and provide a better overall experience for customers. One of the critical features of this new format is the use of digital ordering kiosks.

Customers can place their orders at these kiosks and pick up their food at a dedicated counter. This system will require a to-go packaging strategy that’s sustainable, leaving a large opportunity for Eco Friendly bags for food. This change aligns with the company’s commitment to reducing its environmental impact while supporting the volume of their new QSR locations.
